Obituary

Dorothy Martha Bleeker was born November 28, 1918 in Beulah Township, in Hanson County near Alexandria, SD to Ben and Anna Lehr. Dorothy Accepted Christ as her Saviour at age 14 and was baptized by Rev. Gotsche in 1933.  She was a member of Plum Creek Baptist Church until 1940 when she joined First Baptist Church in Emery. She graduated from Emery High School in 1935 and Dakota Wesleyan University in 1937.  On September 14, 1940 she married Otto V. Bleeker. Dorothy taught in rural schools, the Avon public school, was a teacher’s aide in the Emery School and was a clerk in the Emery Post Office for many years. Dorothy was very active at First Baptist Church in the Women’s Groups and as a Sunday School Teacher.  She and Otto spent many years volunteering at Sioux Falls Seminary.  She loved getting to know everyone and made friends instantly. She was an inspiration to all on how to make the world a better place.

The treasures she really enjoyed were her children: Sylvan (Dee) Bleeker, Great Bend, KS and Beth (Cal) Gust, Manitoba, Canada; her grandchildren: Melissa (Eric) Ruff and Lucy, Jude and Theo, White Plains, NY; Josh (Eva) Bleeker, Garland, TX; Joel (Julie) Krosschell and Allison, Aubri and Ethan, Cimarron, KS; Lindsay (Tim) Batke, Alberta, Canada; Laurel (Mark) Koslowski, British Columbia, Canada; and Andrew Gust, Los Angeles, CA.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Otto and her brother, Bob Lehr.

Dorothy will be truly missed by all.

Dorothy was my school teacher at Beulah # 3 country school in Hanson Co. in the late 30's. I have not seen her in as many years, but always remembered her. In fact, she was one of my security question/answers as my favorite teacher for some On Line check in. I also was a member of the Plum Creek Baptist church and lived 2+ miles from the Lehr farm. I am 85 years old and hope to live with joy as long as she did. She was a lovely lady. My sympathy to the family.

Dorothy was an amazing Christian women! I enjoyed visiting with her when I would visit my Mom. She lived just across the hall and was a good friend to my mom and my others at Grandview Assisted Living. She will be very much missed! My thouhgts and prayers are with her family and friends.

I volunteer at DCC leading devotions and prayer weekly and she was one of my prayer warriors. I will miss her as she inspired me to keep trusting the Lord.
