Obituary

Marcellus “Marley” Scheid was born in Easton, Minnesota on January 16, 1921 to William and Louise (Hefner) Scheid.  He grew up in Easton, attended Mt. Carmel grade school and graduated from Wells High School.  After he graduated from high school, he went to work for his brother, Emil, in the plumbing, sheet metal and air conditioning business in Waseca, Minnesota.  Later he managed another shop that he and his brother opened in Austin, Minnesota.  He also played Semi-Pro baseball after high school.

He was inducted into the United States Army on July 29, 1941.  After Basic Training he was sent to the South Pacific.  He served on many islands and received several medals.  At the time the atomic bomb was dropped, he was in Manila preparing for the invasion of Japan.  His Company and a hospital ship were the first ships to go into Yokahama, Japan.  He was standing on-shore when the peace treaty was signed on the U.S.S. Missouri.  He arrived back in the United States in November, 1945, and he was discharged the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

In 1946, he went to Mitchell, South Dakota to do some work at Hormel Foods and took a permanent job with them later that same year.  He married Marianne (Kettler) Scheid on June 25, 1946 in St. Paul, Minnesota.  He worked for Hormel Foods until they closed the plant in 1979, after which he took early retirement.

Marley and Marianne had three children:  Warren Scheid and wife Maggie (St. Paul, Minnesota), Michael (Mick) Scheid and wife Stacy (Denver, Colorado), and Mary Lou (Scheid) Puszka and husband George Puszka (Chicago, Illinois).  He had seven grandchildren:  Brian Scheid, Kevin Scheid, Daniel Scheid, Andrew Scheid, Victoria (Tori) Scheid, Katherine (Katie) Puszka, and Ryan Puszka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Emil Scheid, Monsignor Alton Scheid, and William Scheid, his sister Carmel (Scheid) Wald, and his wife, Marianne.

So sorry to hear of Marley's passing but I know the angels up there are getting their own stock tips. When I think of Marley he lived a long and interesting life. He had many friends and was so proud of his family. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather.
