Elsie Margaret Rippe was born March 3, 1918, in Davison County near Mitchell, to Arthur and Anna (Storm) Mueller. She grew up and attended school in Davison County and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On December 30, 1937, she was united in marriage to Irwin Rippe at St John Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Mount Vernon and Ethan area until they retired in 1978. They later moved to Parkston and then to Mitchell in 1984.
Elsie had been a member of St John Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church and was a member of the ladies church circles. She was a member of the Davison County Friendship Circle Extension Club, and a volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program with the Mitchell Police Department for many years which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was an avid gardener, baker and seamstress. She spent many hours sewing and quilting at home and church and also doing embroidery work. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons: Duane Rippe and wife, Lois of Cedar Falls, IA; Delbert Rippe and wife, Pam of Mitchell; Robert Rippe and wife, Shirley of Brookings; Keith Rippe and wife, Shirley of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Darlene Robbins and husband, Dick of Sioux Falls; Judy Moege and husband, Dale of Parkston; one daughter-in-law, Ardis Walker and husband, Ross of Sun Lakes, AZ; three brothers: Elmer Mueller of Mitchell; Herb Mueller and wife, Margaret of Parkston; Harvey Mueller and wife, Laverna of Parkston; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a special friend, Orval Patzloff.
She was preceded in death by her husband Irwin in 1993, her parents, one brother, six sisters, two sons, Glenn Rippe and Richard Rippe and his wife Neva, three infant daughters: Sharon and twins, Mary Lou and Marlys Ann, one grandson, Kevin Rippe and one granddaughter, Chelsie Rippe.
