Marvin Joseph Schoenfelder was born June 25, 1925 in Dimock SD to Edward and Mary (Kummer) Schoenfelder. He married Joan Ann Murtha on July 6, 1948 at Parkston. Marvin grew up and farmed in Dimock until he moved to town in 1979. He attended Sts. Peter & Paul Parochial schools for 6 years and country schools for 2 years. He was a life time member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he sang in the choir for 60 years. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1944 and joined the 4th degree in 1984. He was a Past Grand Counselor of United Commercial Travelers. He worked with ASC for several years and also for Statistical Reporting Service in Agriculture of SD from 1968-1978. He did custom farm work for several years. Marvin enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends on the Missouri River his entire life. He camped, fished and hunted until it was no longer possible. He also enjoyed shooting trap and was a great shot.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan, six sons, Robert (Jean), Dimock; Daniel (Susan), Dimock; Patrick (Pam), Worthington, MN; Timothy, Cedar Rapids, IA; Paul, Hot Springs and John (Linda), Kalispell, MT, one daughter Jessica (Keith) Glover, Sioux Falls, 23 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters: Eunice “Toddy” (Marvin) Welch, Parkston and Marion (Don) Sudbeck, Dimock. He was also a grandpa to numerous foster grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Colette, granddaughter Chantal, three brothers, one sister, three brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and one nephew.
