Obituary


Leona C. Muntefering was born July 21, 1920 on a farm near Dimock to John and Mary (Roth) Koster.  She grew up and attended school at Dimock.  On February 6, 1939, she married Irvin Muntefering at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.  They farmed west of Dimock until retiring and then moved to Mitchell in 1992.  She was a member of the Altar Society of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Holy Family Catholic Church as well as a member of the Catholic Daughters Society.  Leona was an avid homemaker, seamstress, gardener, and quilter and will be fondly remembered by her family for her homemade bread.
 
She is survived by three daughters:  Darlene (Dick) Branaugh, Mission Hill; Cheryl (Tom) Stirling, Ethan; Charlene (Doug) Moon, Lincoln, NE; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter; one sister, Wilma Boddicker of Mitchell and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin, in 2005; two sons, Charles and Bill; one grandson, Dave Muntefering; and a great grandson, Christian Schoenfelder; six sisters and two brothers.

My prayers go out to the family. I attended Dimock School and worked for Ervin and his wife on the farm when I was about 14 years old. They treated me great. I lived 1 mile north of their farm and this was circa 1950.

Aunt Leona, a wonderful women who cherished and loved her family, I will always cherish the times we spent together and the stories we shared, love and will miss her dearly. Forever with the Angels always in our Hearts.
