Obituary

Lucille Catherine Jones was born on April 3, 1915, in Parkston, S.D., to Hubert and Catherine (Schmitz) Rademacher. She attended Letcher High School while employed by the Frank Winsor family in Letcher, and in 1934, she graduated from Mitchell High School. On June 8, 1936, she and Paul M. Jones were married at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Dimock. She devoted her life to raising their five children. As a young family, they enjoyed occasional trips, either to Wisconsin to visit her mother’s many relatives, or to the Black Hills and Yellowstone. Her children grown, she worked outside the home, managing School Food Service with Anastasia “Stach” Feterl at Holy Family School in Mitchell for eleven years.

Until late in life, Lucille was an active member of her community and church, contributions that began as a Cub Scout Den Mother when her children were young. She later joined the Newman Club, Holy Family Catholic Church, and the Altar Society, serving one term as co-chair. She was a wonderful cook and exceptional baker, known for homemade pies, especially rhubarb and strawberry, and for her caramel pecan, cinnamon rolls. She loved to garden, growing flowers and vegetables with much success and often sharing the results, such as frozen strawberries and canned tomatoes and beans from her vegetable garden, or cuttings, roots and entire plants from flower beds. If not gardening, she spent her free time playing cards, either bridge with friends or canasta with her grandchildren. She delighted in seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Above all, she will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grand mother and great grandmother; a woman unwavering in her faith, and a kind and gentle neighbor who will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her children: daughter Barb Gohn, of Aberdeen, S.D.; and four sons, Frank (Phyllis), of Osceola, Iowa; Tom, Denver, Colo.; Dick (Joy), Madison, Wis.; Greg (Kathy), Bloomington, Minn.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and five siblings; sister Florence Gard, and four brothers, Leo, who died in infancy; Elmer, Ves, and Bill.
