Obituary

Raymond Henry Berg was born to John and Josephine (Haler) Berg on April 17, 1931 in Emery SD.  He grew up in the Emery area.  On June 17, 1952 he entered the US Army and served in the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged in March, 1954.

He was united in marriage to Doris Budde on June 2, 1958.  They farmed south of Alexandria for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1994.  They moved to Mitchell and Ray worked at Hendrickson Manufacturing for twelve years.  He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, American Legion Post 41 of Alexandria and the Korean War Club.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of fifty-six years, Doris of Mitchell; two sons:  Dan Berg of Lafayette LA and Brian (Lorrie) Berg of Sioux Falls SD; one daughter, Laura Berg of Sioux Falls SD; five grandchildren:  Taylor (Breanna), Angel, Danny, Ivy and Brad; special friends:  Brad LeBlanc and Char Skovlund; two brothers:  Gerald Berg of Emery SD and John Berg of Yankton SD; three sisters:  Regina (Louis) Nolz, Rita (Jerome) Weber all of Mitchell and Eleanor (Virgil) Weber of Spearfish and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and beloved grandson, America Gatluak.

Raymond Berg excelled at being the best father, husband, grandpa, brother, nephew and cousin.  He was loved by many and he gave that love right back.

We all admired his continual honesty as he walked on this earth.  Ray was an example of a true Christian.

When someone we love passes away, the grief we feel can not always be expressed into words. May this poem bring comfort along the way.

The Christian's Goodnight
By Sarah Doudney (c. 1871)

•Sleep on, beloved, sleep, and take thy rest;
Lay down thy head upon the Savior’s breast;
We loved thee well, but Jesus loves thee best
Good night! Good night! Good night!

•Calm is thy slumber as an infant’s sleep;
But thou shall wake no more to toil and weep;
Thine is a perfect rest, secure and deep
Good night! Good night! Good night!

•Until the shadows from this earth are cast,
Until He gathers in His sheaves at last;
Until the twilight gloom be over past
Good night! Good night! Good night!

•Until the Easter glory lights the skies,
Until the dead in Jesus shall arise,
And He shall come, but not in lowly guise
Good night! Good night! Good night!

•Until, made beautiful by love divine,
Thou, in the likeness of thy Lord shall shine,
And He shall bring that golden crown of thine
Good night! Good night! Good night!

•Only Good night, beloved, not farewell!
A little while, and all His saints shall dwell
In hallowed unison indivisible
Good night! Good night! Good night!

•Until we meet again before His throne,
Clothed in the spotless robe He gives His own,
Until we know even as we are known
Good night! Good night! Good night!

Raymond, we know that you are in a better place, you will be missed so much. We will cherish the wonderful times the four of us had when we ate out. We pray for Doris and the Children that they will find peace in their memories.

Doris, We send our sincere sympathy to you. Always enjoyed the visits with you & Ray. Ray always had a witty response to a lot of the "happenings" going on in our visits. To Brian & Lorrie and family, We are very sorry for the loss of your Dad. Find comfort in all the memories you all share. God Bless
