Verdabelle Schulz was born June 15, 1924 near Alexandria to Stephen and Clara (Sorensen) Saxton. She attended country school, helped on the family farm and then worked at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls and Methodist Hospital in Mitchell. On April 21, 1950 she married Clarence Schulz at Saint Martin Lutheran Church in Alexandria. They farmed west of Spencer for thirty-five years retiring to Mitchell in 1985. The farm site they loved was destroyed by the 1998 Spencer tornado. Verda was a 4-H leader for the Sunshine Gals 4-H Club near Farmer for many years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell where she was active in the Women’s Circle. She enjoyed being on a bowling team for many years, volunteering at the Ark and she served as local commander of the Disabled American Veterans organization.
She is survived by her daughters: Janell Peoples and Karen (Bill) Bumann of Lake Preston, brother, Wayne Saxton, Salem and sister, Ferne Brimmer, Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence in 2003, her son, Glenn in 1979, son-in-law, Del Peoples and four brothers: Nels, Leo, Orville and Sherman.

So sorry to hear about your Mom. Ellis told me at Lloyd Osborn's funeral today. Please stay in touch. Cousins need to stick together. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Karen and Janel--Your mother was such a wonderful neighbor. She was an adopted grandmother to out youngest two daughters. She was so proud of you girls. We have missed her being a neighbor for so long. Just was thinking about her the other day. So sorry for your loss.

I have many good memories of your mom. I remember her in the kitchen alot and also letting us kids pick mulberries from your trees. God bless you and your family.
