Reva Dianne Stedman was born December 18, 1943 in Philip, SD to Howard and Eva (Smith) Riddell. They lived fifteen miles northwest of Philip on the homestead her dad's parents had claimed. She attended Haakon County country school grades 1 through 6 at which time the school was closed. She then boarded with her grandmother, Dorothy Smith, in Philip while she attended Philip schools, grades 7 through 12. After graduation she attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD, graduating with a B.A. degree in 1966. She taught at Mitchell Senior High School the following two years.
She married Richard Stedman of Mitchell on June 5, 1966, at Phillip, SD. They had a son, Russell, and a daughter, Rochelle. They lived in Mitchell until 1973 at which time they moved to Columbus, NE. They lived there four years at which time they returned to Mitchell so Richard could accept a job as a teacher at Mitchell Technical Institute. After the birth of their children, Reva became a fulltime housewife and mother until they were both in school. She worked part time for the Mitchell School hot lunch program for three years. She then got a full-time job at the Shopko store in Mitchell where she continued working for twenty years. After retirement from Shopko, she went back to a part-time position with the Mitchell Public Schools hot lunch program at L.B. Williams for three years.
She enjoyed volunteering at the Dakota Discovery Museum, her church and delivering Meals on Wheels. Her family always came first. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church including being an active member of the Eunice Circle and UMW most of her life. She held the office of President, Secretary and Treasurer several times over the years. She also enjoyed learning to quilt with the Methodist quilters.
She loved her role as a wife and mother, caring for their home and family. Her hobbies were flower gardening, sewing, reading and traveling after retirement. She and her husband enjoyed touring the U.S. by bus plus a few ocean cruises.
The loves of her life were her husband, Rich of forty-seven years, her children, Russ Stedman and wife, Solvei of Sioux Falls, Rochelle Sailer and husband, Shannon, and her two grandsons, Jacob Sailer and Jared Sailer of Rapid City. Other family members are her brother, Alan Riddell and wife, Deb of West Allis, Wisconsin, her sister-in-law, Georganne Sorenson of Pierre, her mother-in-law Dolores Stedman and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and father-in law, Leo Stedman and mother-in-law, Margueritte Stedman.

Fifty one years ago, I met Reva as my college roommate. I was blessed to have her remain my best friend, an unselfish and non-pretentious sister, a confidant who always worried more about me than about herself even in the years she battled cancer. Reva is at peace. She would want comfort for you, her family, as you struggle with your deep loss. I pray that you feel her peace and find solace in knowing how she touched the lives of those she knew. I send love and prayers as I share your sadness.

I am sure the sun will not shine as brightly without Reva. She had a smile to light up the room and always concerned with
others more than herself. She was a picture of courage in her
fight with cancer....now she is at peace and free. We mourn with
you at this sad, sad time.
