Alvina Constance Erlandson was born February 16, 1921 the second of six children born to Alfred and Kristense (Utland) Olson at their home in Minot, ND. Alvina graduated from Minot Model High School and attended Minot Business School. In 1942 she and three of her girlfriends went to California where she worked for North American Aircraft. While working there she met her future husband, John, while he was completing training with the Army Air Corps. After the war, they married in Minot on October 14, 1945. They made their home in Baltimore, MD and in 1954 moved to Huron, SD and then to Mitchell, SD in 1976.
While in Huron, Alvina worked for the American Lutheran Church and then for the Clerk of Courts Office in Huron and later in Mitchell. She retired in 1985. In 2012 they celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage. To them were born three children: Darrell of Sioux Falls, SD, Diane (Jim) Arth of Lakeland, FL and Sheree (Bruce) Vande Garde of Aurora, CO.
Alvina was a great wife and mother. She was a wonderful cook. When kids and grandkids visited they were not allowed to leave without a big supply of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. She loved to play cards and once she retired she was always headed somewhere to play bridge or pinochle. She and John took many trips to school and military reunions and in 1994 they took a trip to Europe to participate in the 50th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.
Alvina was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church of Mitchell.
