Joseph “Joe” Hofer was born November 17, 1932 at Bridgewater, SD to Joe J. and Justina (Wipf) Hofer. On September 3, 1951 he married Norma Mohr. During the Korean War he served in the US Army from January 1952 until December 1953, spending 18 months in Austria. He farmed from 1953 to 1970 and then managed Anderson Farms until 1984. He worked at the Farmer’s Elevator until 1994 and then he was employed as a driver for Palace Motors, Vern Eide Ford and Muth Electric and most recently worked at County Fair Food Store. Joe played fast pitch softball and was an avid bowler for many years. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and playing cards. He was a faithful visitor to nursing homes and the residents looked forward to his visits. He enjoyed morning coffee visits, playing pool and calling bingo at Wesley Acres where he and Norma resided. He will be missed by the many lives he touched with his friendly and outgoing personality. He was called uncle Joe and grandpa Joe by many people.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma of sixty-one years, their children: Jody (Jim Sprague) Clarke, Yankton; Todd (Deb) Hofer, Neenah, WI; LaRue (Clarence) Steffes, Coral (Randy) Newsam, Mitchell; siblings: Mabel Voss, Parkston; Alvin (Verna) Hofer, Wilbert (Thelma) Hofer, Mitchell; Pearl (Duane) Duba, Ethan; Rose (Carl) Larson, Sioux Falls; Carol (Tom) Brown, Rapid City; Howard (Jesse) Mohr, Pleasanton, CA; grandchildren: Teri Hare, Rapid City; Angie (Bill) Hanselman, Neenah, WI; Chris Hofer and special friend Katie Lyon, Fort Collins, CO; Trevor Steffes, Britt Steffes, Amber (Mark) Barrett, Mitchell; Jesse Bender, Pierre; Justin (Nadia) Bender, Bismarck, ND; Eric (Tammy) Bender, Washburn, ND; Ryan (Myquel) Bender, Killeen, TX; Heather (Aaron) Marmon, Dalzell, SC and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Jack and Pearl Mohr, one son, Lance, one daughter, Renn, one grandson, Sean Hill, one great grandson, Tyler Steffes, brother-in-law, Bill Voss and beloved pet, Sheba.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

Norma, I have been thinking about you alot lately and am thankful to have had the chance to visit with you and Joe at the hospital. I will cherish the many memories of Joe coming into Lueken's Bakery. You are in my thoughts and prayers!
