Marvin Richard Stickel was born January 5, 1919 in Mount Vernon, SD to Charles and Eva (Thomas) Stickel. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1937. He worked for the National Youth Administration and on farms in the area for several years. He served in the US Army, where he learned to fly and was honorably discharged in 1946. On September 3, 1954 he married Thelma Boyd. His was employed at the Mitchell Airport, where he taught ground school and flying lessons. He was later employed with State Game Fish and Parks Department and East River Electric. Marvin owned two airplanes and loved to fly.
He is survived by his wife Thelma, one daughter, Ruth (Dan) Shank, Rapid City; one son, Paul Stickel, Mitchell; a son-in-law, Bob Erickson, Mitchell; three grandchildren: Steven Erickson, Springfield, OR; Shawn Erickson, Mitchell; Danny Shank, Rapid City; and one great grandson, Sawyer Erickson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Erickson, a brother, Cal and sister, Wanda Gregory.
