Helen "Dolly" Metz Keeland

Helen “Dolly” Metz Keeland was born January 5, 1948 at Alexandria, SD to Clarence “Tony” and Josephine (Benson) Metz. She grew up in the Alexandria and Mitchell areas and graduated from Notre Dame High School in Mitchell with the class of 1966. She worked for Nepstad’s Flower Shop in Mitchell before moving to Portland in 1968. She worked for Helen’s Flowers in North Portland while attending cosmetology school at North Portland Beauty School. She later owned and operated St. Johns Beauty Salon in St. Johns until disabled by multiple sclerosis. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
She is survived by two children: Ryan and Jennifer Keeland of St. Johns; nine siblings: Carl Metz and wife, Jan, John Metz and wife, Joyce, Bernard Metz, Francis Metz, Margaret Johnson and Carolyn Stevenson all of the Mitchell area; Mary Borszich and husband, Don of Grand Junction, CO; Christina Gardner and Kitty Lund and husband, Rich all of Portland, OR and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clarence Metz.
Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Association.

Dear Metz family: I was sorry to read about Dolly. I remember when you moved down the road from us and came to school at Rosedale #2. Dolly & Kitty were just little girls.
You all have my sympathy.
