Ruth Lucille Bateman was born July 13, 1917, at Yankton, to Cassius and Estelle (Spink) Gurney. She grew up and attended schools at Yankton and Mitchell. She was a bookkeeper in the military and lived in Augusta GA, France, the Philippines, Sioux Falls and then retired in Mitchell. She was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary and the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Woodside of Mitchell, two granddaughters, Ziantha Stroud of Mitchell and Roberta Woodside of Mitchell and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Judson, two brothers, one sister and her son Donald Irwin.
