Hazel Osterloo was born October 29, 1918 on a farm south of Emery, SD to Andrew H. and Anna (Janssen) Osterloo. She grew up on the farm and attended country school near her home. After her mother’s death she moved to Parkston, SD where she worked at the Colony of Mercy Home. She resided in Mitchell for numerous years and in January 1997 she moved to the Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater.
Hazel’s hearing and speech disability hampered her formal education, but she more than compensated with her creative abilities. She made many beautiful rugs, knitted and sewed. She enjoyed interacting with her nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is survived by one brother, Andrew Osterloo of Mitchell and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters-in-law, Hans (Lillian) Osterloo, Dick (Elsie) Osterloo, Henry (Adeline) Osterloo, Velma Osterloo; two nephews, Ronald Osterloo, Jerald LaRon Osterloo and a special friend, Earl Knappe.
