Evelyn Loretta Easton was born February 11, 1912 at Lignite, ND to Peter Nissen and Bena (Smith) Johnson. She grew up in Lignite where she graduated from high school in 1930. For two summers she worked at her father’s bank in Lignite. She attended Minot State Teachers College for two years and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion where she majored in Hospital Dietetics. In 1934, Evelyn and her father moved the Ambrose State Bank from Lignite to Crosby and in 1942 she became Vice President of the bank. On August 21, 1936 she married Ralph H. Easton. They owned and operated the Easton Drug Store.
She was an active member in the Presbyterian Church, past President of the Presbyterian Women’s Association and was a member of the Eastern Star. She had served on the school board and was President of the Republican Women’s Organization for Divide County.
She is survived by two children: Kirk Easton and wife, Martha of St. John’s Island, SC, Kaye Neller and husband, Harold of Mitchell, SD; one granddaughter, Carrie Fraser of Louisville, KY; and one sister, Margaret Hawkinson of San Diego, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph and her sister, Beryl Hay.
