William August Schmidt was born April 9, 1944 at Parkston, SD, to Otto and Anna (Triebwasser) Schmidt. He attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Delmont High School in 1962. He graduated from Southern State College in Springfield and received his Masters Degree in CAD from Northern State College in Aberdeen. He and his brother did custom combining for a number of years. He worked at the Parkston-Delmont co-ops and then was a semi-truck driver. He moved to Fedora where he farmed for Gordon Crane then moved to Ethan and farmed for Curt Buehler at Armour. He moved to Mitchell, where he was a crossing guard, worked for the Mitchell Public Schools and Green Thumb.
He is survived by two sons, Joey Muntefering of Mitchell and Joshua Muntefering of Mitchell, one granddaughter Jadyn Muntefering of Mitchell, his friend, Darla Muntefering of Mitchell, one sister, Karen Brooks of Vancouver, WA, his mother-in-law, Dorothy Muntefering of Ethan, and his sister-in-law, Carol Goehring of Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Norbert Schmidt, Otto Schmidt Jr. and Don Schmidt and father-in-law Bill Muntefering.
