Virginia H. Stedronsky was born March 9, 1912 in Dante, SD to Clifton and Mabel (Schaeffer) Smith. At the age of five she moved with her family to Lake Andes where she graduated from high school in 1930. She attended Southern Normal School in Springfield and then taught in rural schools and first grade in Lake Andes. On Easter Sunday in March 1937 she married Henry Stedronsky. In 1956 she moved to Vermillion and attended the University of South Dakota, receiving her teaching degree. She taught school in Vermillion for twenty years, receiving Teacher of the Year Award in 1977. In May 1984 she received the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Diana Award for the state of South Dakota for her exceptional service to humanity. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, PEO Sisterhood, Retired Teachers Organization and the Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her three children: Joan Dolejsi and husband, John of Mitchell, SD, Karen Page and husband, Jack of Wilmette, IL, Henry James Stedronsky of Litchfield, CT; one brother, George Smith of Yuma, AZ; one sister, Charmaine Bard of Yuma, AZ; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Jean Schaeffer of Madison, WI and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry on April 15, 1951 and a brother Clifton Smith Jr.
