Joan LaVonne Bultje was born November 4, 1920 at Hull, IA to Gerrit and Sadie (Scholten) Kempers. She grew up at Sioux Center, IA, where she attended country school. She worked doing housekeeping and was employed at restaurants for many years. On April 27, 1951 she married John Bultje at the First Reformed Church at Sioux Center. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Mitchell and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her son, Evan Bultje, Watertown; three grandchildren: Shannon Bultje, Sioux Falls; Travis Bultje, Platte; Melanie (Brad) Spinar, Mitchell; three great-grandchildren: Haley Mae Spinar, Skylar Bultje and Tyler Spinar; four sisters-in-law: Esther Kempers, Sioux Center, IA; Rosemary Taylor, Ames, IA; Henrietta Bultje, Mitchell and Margaret Bultje, Armour.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, three brothers: John, Orville and Gary, seven brothers-in-law: Henry, Fred, Albert, Cornie, Arie, Harold and Elmer and five sisters-in-law: Johanna, Effie, Fannie, Lola and Gertrude.
