Robert Elery Braden was born December 2, 1919, at Stover, MO, to John and Jenie (Cowell) Braden. He grew up attended school in Stover and graduated from Stover High School in 1942. He served in the US Navy from 1942 until 1944. He was then employed at Ozark Airlines in Marshall, MO. While on an airplane ride with Thyra (Ginger) Cloud, he proposed marriage and they were married December 25, 1948, in Emery, SD. He was employed at Berry and Sons in Mitchell. In 1961, he and his wife purchased from his father-in-law, the Emery Enterprise and in 1975, the Alexandria Herald. They printed and operated the press until their retirement in 1987, when they moved to Mitchell. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, pool and snowmobiling. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the DAV.

He is survived by one son, Eddy Braden of Mitchell, SD; three grandchildren, Jamie Robinson and husband, Greg of Mitchell, SD, Matt Braden and fiancé, Katie Mebius of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kim Braden and fiancé, Glenn Cantrell of Tripp, SD; one step-grandchild, Jerry Axsom and wife, Kathy of Mitchell, SD; eight great-grandchildren, Patrick, Dillon, Katelyn, Alexis, Erren, Destiny, Madison, Xavier; daughter-in-law, Janet Stoffel of Salem; nineteen nieces and nephews; special relatives, Judy Reeter of Brookings, SD, Dixie Hawkey of Sioux Falls, SD and Shelly Brown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ginger;  parents; three brothers, Earl Braden, Ora Braden, Lendell Braden; four sisters, Naomi Riedsal, Rita Wilson, Urshey Bush and Monta Horner; brother-in-law Rex Cloud, sister-in-law, Elaine Estenson; daughter-in-law, Linda Braden; and two step-grandchildren.
