Jerry Dean Nicholson was born March 16, 1938 to Clifton and Lucille (Zard) Nicholson on the family farm near Artesian.  Jerry attended the Ravenna Township country school. He graduated from Plano Consolidated School in 1956. Jerry met the love of his life, Charlotte Rose King, while in high school. Jerry and Charlotte were united in marriage on June 29, 1958 at the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell.

Jerry lived on the family farm all of his life.  He was an active farmer, raising cattle, hogs and milking cows.  Jerry and Charlotte loved to attend auction sales, collecting John Deere toys and ornaments, pigs, cookie jars and 4 inch crescent wrenches.  Jerry enjoyed gardening and delivering his produce to friends and neighbors. He also collected Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo belt buckles. Jerry was known for his homemade ice cream that he made and shared with everyone.

Jerry was a member of the Moose Lodge, SD Stock Growers, SD Pork Producers and sat on the Ravenna Township Board for many years. He enjoyed volunteering at the Carnegie Resource Center.

Jerry loved spending time with the grandkids and great-grandkids.  Jerry is survived by his wife, Charlotte; his daughter, Jodi; his sons: Brian (Renee), Layne (Anita) and Scott (Carol); fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  Preceding him in death were his grandson, Bradley Layne Nicholson, his parents, Clifton and Lucille Nicholson, his brother, Keith Nicholson, sister-in-law, Jessie King and four nieces and one  nephew.
