Steve Houska was born September 13, 1923 at Dante, SD to Paul and Mary (Thaler) Houska. He attended school and grew up in the Dante and Wagner area. He served as a T/Sgt in the US Army during WWII, discharged in 1946. On June 1, 1948 he married Irene Kadlec at the Presbyterian Church in Lake Andes. They farmed south of Armour and then south of Geddes for several years. In 1957 they moved to Mitchell where they started a farm machinery repair business. He was semi-retired and continued to work restoring antique farm equipment until just a few years ago. He was an avid gardener.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1994, one brother, Frank and three sisters: Christine Pesicka and Hattie and Pauline in infancy, and one niece: Darla.
