Gaylene H. Breidenbach was born June 22, 1920, to Philip and Clara (Johnson) Breidenbach in Mitchell SD. He grew up and attended schools in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1938. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942. On June 27, 1943, he married Lorraine Kayser in Leavenworth, KS. He was sent to Michigan and various places and finally deployed to New Guinea and the Philippines in May 1944. He returned from WWII in 1945 and was discharged from the Army in January 1946.
Gale worked for Grand Union Tea Company as District Supervisor in Sioux City, IA. He returned to Mitchell as Manager of the Red Owl Food Store where he continued employment for 23 years. Lorraine worked for Northwestern Bell. In 1969 he went into farming and his hobby and passion finally became his job. He also worked for Scott’s Supply while farming. He retired in 2005.
Gale was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Lion’s Club, American Legion, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and the Polka Dance Club.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two sons Gary (Ardis) Breidenbach, Mitchell; Philip (Cheryl) Breidenbach, Idaho Falls, ID; one daughter, Kathy (Jerry) Burks, Indianapolis, IN; brother, Philip Breidenbach, Grand Junction, CO; six grandchildren: Jacob, Jason, Courtney, Rachel, Michael and Nicole. 5 great –grandchildren: Jaycee, Jade, Ellie, Kinzey and Colin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joyce Heuschkel, and brother Clayton Breidenbach
