     Lois Arline Stenson was born May 15, 1922, at Letcher, SD to Jay L. and Goldie (Burget) Welch.  She attended Jacobus Country School and Letcher High School, graduating in 1940.  She earned her teaching certificate from Notre Dame College of Mitchell, SD.  For a year she taught at the Sheldon School in Sanborn County. 

     On July 19, 1942 she married Duane “Bud” Stenson at the Congregational Church parsonage at Letcher, SD.  She and her husband lived on the Stenson family homestead near Fulton, SD for five years and they then moved into Mitchell, SD.  She worked at a daycare as the head pre-school instructor for many years.  Later she worked at the Randall’s Grocery Store bakery until her retirement.

     She was a member of First Lutheran Church and Faith Circle.   Lois volunteered with R.S.V.P. for many years.  She was active with the Mitchell Garden Club winning numerous awards for her floral arrangements.  She was a member of Dine-a-Nite, James Valley Community Center, and was an avid Bunco and card player.  Lois loved to read and enjoyed movies.

     She is survived by her three daughters:  Linda Haskett and husband, Calvin of Sioux Falls, SD; Vickie Mattox and husband, Jack Jr. of Alliance, NE; and LaDawn Dykhouse and husband, Dana of Sioux Falls, SD; nine grandchildren: Kevin Haskett and wife, Shelley of Elkhorn, NE; Amy Grav and husband, Andy and  Christopher Haskett all of Sioux Falls, SD; JoLee Krebs and husband, Jason;  Jennifer, Jessica and Jillian Mattox all of Alliance, NE; Dan Dykhouse and wife, Kristina of Sioux Falls and Alana Dykhouse of Arlington Heights, IL; and six great grandchildren: Haley and Paige Haskett of Elkhorn, NE; Kayla & Kayden Krebs of Alliance, NE; Jaelynn Mattox of Alliance, NE and Bennett Dykhouse of Sioux Falls; one brother, Wallace Welch and wife, Ann of Sioux Falls, SD.  

     She was preceded in death by her husband, “Bud” in 2006; her parents; two brothers, Donald and Verlon Welch and a sister, Ruby Mickelson and an infant sister, Frieda.

Linda, I am so sorry to hear about your mother's death. Regardless of how old we are, our mothers hold a special spot for us. Just because her body is gone - know that her spirit is still alive and is with your dad. Much love, Rose

Linda, I was very sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom.... My heart goes out to you and your family during this time.... When you get back to KCC - there will be a big HUG waiting for you!!!! Until then - take care and remember God will be there for you and your family!!!

SO SORRY TO READ OF YOUR MOTHERS DEATH. I ENJOYED GETTING TO KNOW HER WHEN I WAS EMPLOYED AT THE ASSISTED LIVING. SHE WAS SUCH A WONDERFUL LADY. ALWAYS HAD A NICE VISIT WITH HER WHEN I WOULD STOP IN AND VISIT AT THE ASSISTED LIVING. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOUR FAMILY.
