David Eugene Weitala was born October 21, 1951 in Aberdeen to Delbert and Helen (Martell) Weitala. He graduated from Central High School in 1969 and then Northern State College with a BA Degree in fine arts. On February 28, 1987 he married Kimberly Beaudin in New Baltimore, MI. He worked with his father at Feinstein and the Walk Stop shoe store until closing it in 2007. He was currently a manager of Burger King Restaurant. He was the acting chairman of the Davison County Commissioners where he had been serving since 2004. He was a member of Northridge Baptist Church where he served as deacon, trustee, taught Sunday School and AWANA. He served on boards for the Prehistoric Indian Village and the Mitchell Main Street renovation project. He was an original board member of the Love Feast and was still organizer of the April Love Feast. Dave truly loved his family and loved to cook for them. He was a deeply devoted husband, father, grandfather “Papi” and was admired by his children, granddaughters, parents, sister and brothers. He had a love for life and was compassionate about his numerous talents which included arts, travel and cooking.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kimberly, daughters: Alexis (Christopher) Rupp, FL; Rani Weitala, CA; Johanna Weitala, AZ; Elysa Weitala, Washington State; Zoe Weitala, Mitchell; granddaughters: Maddison and Chloe Rupp, his parents, Delbert and Helen, sister, Debra Weitala, Mitchell; brothers: Dennis (Kathy), Brookings; DJ (Denise) MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
