Obituary

Linda Viola Dawes was born May 16, 1921, in Hutchinson County, to Christian and Johanna (Drefs) Fischer. She grew up and attended school in Douglas County while working on the family farm. On June 28, 1942, she married Clifford Kurtz. They farmed near Delmont where she was also employed at the Delmont Bank. Their son, Donald, was born August 30, 1943. Following her husband’s death in 1978, she moved to Sioux Falls.

On December 16, 1978, she married Charles Dawes in Sioux Falls. They moved to Mitchell in 1995. Linda died as the result of an automobile accident which occurred December 16th; Linda and Charles’s 33rd wedding anniversary. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid in Delmont and the Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; seven brothers and sisters: Berniece Bialas of Parkston, Ray Fischer and wife, Mildred of Parkston, Harold Fischer of Parkston, Dorothy Stahl and husband, Fred of Mitchell, Lorraine Peters and husband, Henry of Delmont, Anette Van Dyke of Sioux Falls, Louis Fischer and wife, Mary of Naples, FL; sisters-in-law, Nina Jansen of Sioux Falls, Irene Moke of Mitchell, Esther Pietz and husband, Mick of Mitchell; two brothers-in-law, Richard Kurtz and wife, Joan of West Bend, WI, Robert Kurtz and wife, Elaine of Delmont; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald, in 1961, her first husband, Clifford, an infant brother, Elmer, a brother, Bernard Fischer, one sister, Hilda Semmler and her parents.
