Robert Lee Brown was born June 17, 1938, in Hanson County, to Louis and Ada (Huffman) Brown. He graduated from 8th grade at Pleasant 3 Township School. He served in the South Dakota National Guard from 1961 until 1967. On April 20, 1968, he married Shirley Roeder at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. He farmed in Hanson County and was also employed at the South Dakota Department of Transportation and Collin’s Construction. He served as the Hanson County Sheriff from 1975 until his retirement in 2003. His passion was his hobby farm, raising livestock, regularly attending farm sales, auctions and driving through the countryside.
Bob is survived by his wife Shirley, four children: Scott Brown and wife Jean of Alexandria; Lori Cihak and husband Allen of Avon; Paula Brown of Rapid City: Mary Alexander and husband Dan of Mitchell; ten grandchildren: Ryan, Catie, Shanna, Kimberlee and Christine Brown; Derek, Mallory and Jacob Cihak; Lauren and Maxwell Alexander; one brother, Kenneth Richard Brown and wife Jean of Sioux Falls; two sisters; Carol Brown of Sioux Falls; Nancy Petersen and husband Pete of Lamoni, IA; two brothers-in-law, Alvin Roeder and wife Gayle of Parker; John Roeder and wife Mary of Mitchell; one sister-in-law, Ruth Roeder of Hot Springs Village, AR; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William Brown, his mother and father-in-law Clarence and Wilhelmine (Mayer) Roeder and a brother-in-law, William Roeder.
