Jack Herman McLaury was born July 27, 1923, at Milltown, SD, to Herman and Mabel (Hayes) McLaury. He grew up in Milltown and graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls. He served in the US Coast Guard during World War II. He lived in California then returned to South Dakota. On October 1, 1949, he married Ruth Wittenhagen in Luverne, MN. They lived in Mitchell, where he farmed and was employed at Hormel for 28 years. He was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Ruth, four children: Judy Tews and husband Douglas of Minnetonka, MN; Terry McLaury and wife Theresa of Omaha, NE; John McLaury and wife Jane of Huron; James McLaury and wife Paula of Tea; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three sisters: Genevieve Kapsch of Sioux Falls, SD; Maxine Doorn of Grain Valley, MO; and Gerry Catassi of San Francisco, CA.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jacalyn McLaury Splitt in 1996, three brothers, five sisters and his parents.
