Obituary

Fern Lorraine (Schimke) Vogt was born on September 14, 1927 in Wessington Springs, SD to Reinhold and Emma (Huether) Schimke. She attended school in Wessington Springs, SD, Bridgewater, SD, Delmont, SD and graduated from Forestburg, SD in 1945. She attended Mitchell Business College for several years. She worked for David Rogers Atty, Dr. Schaefer, DDS, Brown Photography and St. Joseph Hospital all in Mitchell, SD.

Fern married Wiley D. Vogt in Sioux Falls, SD at First Lutheran Church on November 11, 1952. She was a member of the Lioness Club, Elks Club and First Lutheran Church in Mitchell.

She is survived by her brother Curtis Schimke of Huron, SD; two sisters Erna Gutridge of Howell, MI and Betty Allin of Oak Ridge, TN; one daughter Dyann W. Miller (Craig) of Sioux Falls, SD; two sons Jay D. Vogt (Elizabeth) of Pierre, SD and Jon B. Vogt (Lisa) of Greenwood Village, CO; and six grandchildren: Jenny Goehring (Tyson) of Omaha, NE; Andrea Miller of Fort Myers, FL; Gabriel Vogt of Arlington, VA; Joshua Vogt of Alamosa, CO; Zachary Vogt of Bloomington, MN and Caitlin Vogt of Greenwood Village, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Dear Jay and family:
So sorry to hear of your recent loss. Under the circumstances, I hope you are doing well. It must be very difficult and just wanted you to know you're in my thoughts. I lost a much beloved aunt, also on 4 Oct, so it's very much understood how challenging this can be. Take care.

Fern & my Grandma Shirley were roommates at Good Sam. We always enjoyed seeing her when we visited--she was such a sweet lady. If my Grandma was sleeping when we'd visit she would always say, "You better wake her up so she knows you were here or she'll be mad." And often when we'd leave she would say, "Drive careful now." Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
