Clement (Jean) Kluthe was born November 23, 1923, in Woonsocket, SD, to James and Cecilia Roache. She had a brother, Joseph Roache, and a sister, Rita Kutil. Her mother died soon after Rita was born, leaving three children under the age of five. She and her brother, Joe, lived with their father and grandfather, and her sister, Rita, went to live with her Aunt Agnes and Uncle Gail Bolton. She attended school at St. Joseph School in Woonsocket, SD. After that, she moved to Mitchell, SD, where she worked for several different people. She married Sylvester Kluthe in Mitchell, SD, on September 6, 1950. They lived on a farm south of White Lake for 30 years before moving to Mitchell. She loved to crochet, making several baby blankets and kitchen towels. She also loved to entertain herself by playing the organ. She has lived at Avera Brady Home for the past 3 ½ years, which she loved everyday she was there. Her faith was very important to her. She was very kind and friendly to all, and loved to play bingo at the home.
She is survived by her sister, Rita Kutil, Rapid City, SD, two special nieces, Joanne Oliver and Janice Keeney, and a nephew Jerry Kutil, all of Rapid City, SD. She is also survived by several relatives on her husband’s side, especially her special nieces Mary Jo Beckmann and Yvonne Ohlinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; husband, Sylvester, in May 1990; and her brother Joseph Roache, in February 2000.
A special thank you goes out to all her caretakers at the Avera Brady Home. They were all so good to her; also her good friends Dennis and Connie Schnabel of Mitchell, who visited her and brought her candy and cookies so often, and Mary Jo Wittstruck who did her laundry for years.
