Donna Thompson

May 26, 1932 - January 31, 2008

Donna A. Thompson passed away peacefully at Avera Brady Home on Wednesday morning, January 31, 2008 into the arms of Jesus, her Lord & Savior. She was born in Milwaukee, WI on May 26th, 1932 to the Rev. Frank A & Edith M Schultz. Donna grew up in Milwaukee, WI & graduated from West Division High School.

Her loves in life were family, horses & music, especially the violin which she started playing at age 5. She went on to play both in the high school orchestra & in the Milwaukee Philharmonic Orchestra after high school.

She married Melvin G. Allwardt in 1950 & they moved to Plymouth, WI. They eventually moved to a small farm in the Sheboygan Falls area where they raised Pinto & Arabian horses. She also taught music a number of years, especially the guitar & was known for her vocal talents. After she suffered the loss of Melvin in 1973, she met & married Clarence R. Thompson, Sr. in 1974 and then moved to the Reliance, SD area.  They ranched until Clarence was moved to a nursing home in 2002. She & her dog “Bugsy” moved to the Mitchell area where she lived until moving into the Avera Brady facility in Dec.2006 after becoming ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Melvin, her second husband, Clarence, her sister, Beatrice and special niece, Linda.

She is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Rob & Barb Allwardt and her grandson, Brandon Allwardt, all in Bend, OR; three nephews and one niece in Sheboygan, WI. She is also survived by the five step-children and numerous step-grandchildren of the Clarence R Thompson, Sr. family.

A private graveside service was held on February 4, 2008 with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell, SD.  A special memorial service will be held at a later date.

We want to express our thanks & gratitude to the staff at Avera, especially the “A” wing gang who did such a fantastic job making her feel loved as they enjoyed her special gifts of music and quick wit.
