Gaylen Francis Noldner, son of John and Beryl (Newsam) Noldner, was born in Pierre, SD on October 16, 1943. He was baptized and was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Murdo, SD.
Gaylen married his high school sweetheart, Mary Tornow, on February 27, 1961. After graduating from Murdo High School in 1961, he worked on the family farm for a year and then the Clarence Noldner farm for two years. They then moved to town where he worked at the John Deere Implement for 7 years and Corky’s Auto Supply for 18 years. In 1988, they moved to Mitchell where Gaylen worked for 15 years at Trail King. He retired in April 2004.
All who knew Gaylen remember him as being a very special friend. His greatest joy was spending time talking to friends and family. He loved visiting with his grandchildren and was so proud of all of them. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild. During his battle with cancer, Gaylen gave his life to the Lord. His daily phone conversations became his outreach to others, and a comfort and blessing to him.
Grateful to have shared in his life are his wife of 50 years, Mary, Mitchell; children: Tami (Scott) Holbeck of Armour; Tracy (Terri) Noldner of Sioux Falls; Toby (Jenny) Noldner of Sioux Falls; grandchildren: Michael (Christi), Craig, Michelle, Collin, Austin, Whitney, Sam, and Jason; his sister, Belva (Dale) Sassman, Rapid City; mother-in-law, Alice Tornow, Chattanooga, TN; sisters-in-law Marlys Tornow, Cheyenne, WY and Joyce (Don) Dick, Chattanooga, TN; brother-in-law Larry (Susan) Tornow, Leesberg, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Beryl, father-in-law Frank Tornow, and brother-in-law Laverne Tornow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gaylen's name to the Mitchell American Cancer Society and the Mitchell Heart and Sole Cancer Walk.
