Ruth Dorothy Johnson
Dates:February 3, 1923 - July 18, 2011
Ruth Johnson, age 88, passed peacefully from this world to be with her Lord and Savior on July 18, 2011.
Born on February 3, 1923 in Bridgeport, CT to Karl and Mary Kowalski; Ruth spent her youth and part of her young adult life in the Northeast. Not ever thinking of leaving until she met a charming young sailor from Mitchell, SD. Ruth married Chuck Johnson on April 12, 1946, and began a long life together.
Ruth and Chuck moved to Mitchell the first time in 1949 and lived there until 1965. That year they ventured out and moved their family to Madison, SD until 1974 when they returned to Mitchell to live out the remainder of their days surrounded by friends that they’d made throughout their lifetime.
Ruth was truly one of God’s angels on earth. She never met a stranger. Always smiling and freely giving of herself, she touched the lives of countless people. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt and will be truly missed by all of those she leaves behind.
Preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, son, Kenneth, her parents, four brothers and two sisters. Ruth is survived by three sons, Chip and wife Susan, Missoula, MT; Don and wife Gail, Asheville, NC; Tom and wife Bonnie, Henderson, NV; two daughters, Kathy Ernst and husband, Craig, Aberdeen, SD, Mary Prascher and husband, Dan, Grapevine, TX; and one daughter-in-law, Angela Johnson, Ridge, NY; eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

I found Ruth to be warm, witty, wise, charming, and full of spunk. Her zest for life defied her age,The children she raised reflect the kind of mother she was, and she leaves behind a legacy of the love she inspired. Ruth was truly a wonderful woman. My condolences and best regards to all of the Johnson family.
