George Hoffman, 69, Ethan, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at his home in Ethan. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 16, 2008, 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ethan. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8PM Friday evening with a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
George Joseph Hoffman was born November 23, 1938 to Anthony and Mary Catherine (DunLavy) Hoffman at Mitchell. He attended country school and graduated from Ethan High School in 1956. He farmed with his father until entering the US Army, February 7th, 1962. He served in the military police until he was honorably discharged in February of 1964. After his discharge he returned to the farm where he remained until the time of his death. On August 9, 1969 he married Darlene Hohn at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. He was employed at Owatonna Manufacturing in Mitchell from 1974 until 1975, and then Dakota Manufacturing in Mitchell until ill health forced him to retire in December of 2007. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed collecting John Deere memorabilia, being outside and spending time with his family
He is survived by his wife Darlene, two sons, Mike Hoffman and wife Kris of Letcher, Mark Hoffman and wife Jamie of Ethan, one daughter, Michelle Wilson and husband Eric of Ethan, two grandchildren, Austen and Emiley Hoffman and one sister, Colette Van Hecke of Ethan. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Gabriel, a brother-in-law, Francis Van Hecke and one nephew, Dave Muntefering.
