Earl Gerald Markhardt was born on August 22, 1925 at White Lake to Charles and Minnie (Bogenhagen) Markhardt. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he has baptized and confirmed. He later became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in White Lake. He attended St. John’s Parochial School through the eighth grade.
Earl was in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. When he returned home, he moved to the family farm with his brother, Alfred and farmed until he moved to the Aurora Brule Nursing Home in 2003.
Earl loved fishing, hunting, bowling and farming. He also enjoyed his many nieces and nephews and looked forward to their visits, always making sure to fill their pockets with candy without their parent’s knowledge.
Earl was a member of the White Lake Legion, the White Lake Sportsman Club and Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by three sisters: Gladys Rober, Sioux Falls, Lorraine (Oliver) Hanten, White Lake and Ruth Guindon, Plankinton; one sister-in-law, Annie Markhardt, White Lake; five nieces and six nephews. Earl has numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews all of whom were very special to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Minnie; four sisters: Edna, Clara, Florence and Janet; three brothers, Carl, Alfred and Eugene and two brothers-in-law, Walter Rober and Donald Guindon.
