Obituary

 

Virginia LaVonne Mary Thill was born July 29, 1922, on the family farm near Mount Vernon to Mart and Nora (Dempsey) Schuster. She attended a country grade school and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1940. On September 16, 1940, she married Matt Thill at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. They farmed by Woonsocket and Mount Vernon until moving into Mount Vernon in 1965. She worked at Saint Joseph Hospital and the Holiday Inn until her retirement. She later moved to Mitchell.  She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Mount Vernon and Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell.

She is survived by three sons: Larry Thill and wife, Janet of Mitchell, Marvin Thill and wife, Claudia of Mitchell, Dennis Thill and wife, Peggy of Mitchell; four daughters: Sharon Neugebauer and husband, Gene of Mitchell, Dianne Neugebauer and husband, Bill of Dimock, Marilyn Hills and husband, Brad of Crooks, Barbara McFarland and husband, Jim of Caldwell, TX; twenty-seven grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Eileen Colburn and husband, Rueben of Tacoma, WA; one uncle, Gene Schuster of Mitchell; one brother-in-law, Edward Olsen of CA; two sisters-in-law, Adella Wieczorek of Mount Vernon and Marguerite Kilcoin of Sioux Falls and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two grandchildren, three brothers, two sisters; five sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law.

LaVonne was a dear aunt. I loved visiting her when I was young and seeing all my cousins. I am sorry we lost touch but she will always have a special place in my heart.
