Arthur William Scheetz, was born January 6, 1921, at his parent’s home south of Mount Vernon to Carl and Ella (Buhmann) Scheetz. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended the Baker Township #40 school in Davison County. For a number of years he worked with his brother, Ewald Scheetz, doing excavation work. On February 26, 1950, he married Shirley Gardner at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake Township near White Lake. They farmed for two years in Crystal Lake Township, then moved to the Clarence Hughes farm south of Stickney for two years, then moved to the south edge of Stickney for 14 years. He worked for the Aurora Co-op, and then was employed by the South Dakota Highway Department at Plankinton for twenty-eight years. In 1968, they had a new home built in Stickney, where they lived for thirty-seven years until moving to Mitchell. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of sixty years; two daughters, Sharon DeBoer and husband, Jim of Stickney, LeAnn Lauer and husband, Dave of Rapid City; three grandsons: Jeff DeBoer and wife, Mary of Scotland, Chuck DeBoer and wife, Ayrica of Castlewood, Calvin DeBoer and wife, Angela of Corsica; eight great grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Reinfield of Halifax, PA; five sisters-in-law: Florence Scheetz of Mitchell, Marcella (Sally) Scheetz of Tripp, Regina Scheetz of Mitchell, Carrie Badker of Mitchell, Betty Kristensen of Plankinton; one brother-in-law, Jack Gardner and wife, Sharon of White Lake, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Edward Scheetz, Elwald Scheetz, George Scheetz, and Oscar Scheetz, one sister, Cecelia Metzgar and three brothers-in-law, Harry Metzgar, Ray Reinfield and Raymond Kristensen and his father and mother-in-law, Henry and Helen Gardner.
