Ivan Overweg was born January 3, 1951 in Mitchell, SD to Gerrit and Ida (Klein) Overweg. At the age of three he moved with his family to the current family farm where he grew up working and hunting the land he so dearly loved. He attended country school and received his GED on June 19, 1984. On April 19, 1975 he met Patty Nickles and six weeks later they pledged their love to each other on May 31, 1975. Ivan loved to hunt coon, pheasant, deer, coyotes and at one time, his own tire. Grandpa was actively teaching Lucy, Steph and Emily the love of hunting. Ivan lived his dream on the family farm raising his kids and livestock. His cattle were his pride and joy. He had always told Pat, that if he died working his cattle or hunting, he would have died a happy man.
