Obituary

Ivan Overweg was born January 3, 1951 in Mitchell, SD to Gerrit and Ida (Klein) Overweg. At the age of three he moved with his family to the current family farm where he grew up working and hunting the land he so dearly loved.  He attended country school and received his GED on June 19, 1984. On April 19, 1975 he met Patty Nickles and six weeks later they pledged their love to each other on May 31, 1975.  Ivan loved to hunt coon, pheasant, deer, coyotes and at one time, his own tire.  Grandpa was actively teaching Lucy, Steph and Emily the love of hunting.  Ivan lived his dream on the family farm raising his kids and livestock.  His cattle were his pride and joy.  He had always told Pat, that if he died working his cattle or hunting, he would have died a happy man.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pat, his son Gerrit and his wife Deb of Plankinton; his daughter, Brenda and husband Valentin Carbajal of Plankinton; step-son, Shawn Nickles, three granddaughters, Lucy, Stephanie, Emily, two step-granddaughters, Laura and Belinda and two step-grandsons, Shawn Jr. and Donovan, four sisters, Cornelia Donker and husband Bud of Stickney, Dora Dykstra and husband Alvin of Stickney, Mae Groeneweg and husband Norm and Thelma Bennett and husband Roy of Napa, CA, one brother, Albert Overweg and wife Ardis of Mount Vernon, one sister-in-law, Ann Overweg of Mitchell and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Dirk and Albert.

Overweg Family,
Nothing can be said or done at this time to relieve the sadness you are feeling, but cherish the memories and laugh about the good times as they will see you through the day. Share your joys and sadness allowing your heart to mend by those threads. May you all find comfort knowing you have a special angel.
