Inez Lorraine Nelson

September 25, 1931 - September 21, 2010

Inez Lorraine Nelson died September 21, 2010 after a long fight with Alzheimer’s disease.  Inez was born in Phillip, SD on September 25, 1931, the third child of Lawrence and Loretta (Effling) Cote.  She attended Afton township school, St. Wilfred Catholic School in Woonsocket and graduated from Artesian High School. On November 28, 1953 she married Donald Nelson at St. Charles Catholic Church. They farmed together near Artesian where Inez took an active role in the operation and management of the farm. They retired in 1990 and moved to Artesian. Don passed away in December of 1998. In 2003 Inez moved to Countryside Assisted Living in Mitchell. She spent her final years at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket.

She was an active member of St. Charles Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary and served on the Oneida Township Board. Throughout her life, Inez enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as playing cards and traveling with her family.

Inez is survived by her five children:  Donna Nelson, Austin, TX, Lisa (and her husband Steve) Murray, Houston, TX, Rochelle Christensen (and her husband Mike Bush), Roseville, MN, Jane Page (and her husband Rod) Marten, who farm the family farm outside of Artesian, and Jim (and his wife Susan Donahue) Nelson, Hastings, MN.  She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two sisters, Jean Nelson, Houston, TX, and Eva Schmit, Artesian, and a brother, Don Cote, Artesian.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, her grandson, Andy Page, a son-in-law, Tom Page, her parents, two sisters, Betty Peer and Rena Barta, and a brother, Dean “Bud” Cote.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for local charities. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Rasmussen, Prairie View Care Center, and all the care givers who helped her through these last difficult years.
