James Thomas Steinfeld was born May 9, 1928 in Lyman County, SD to George and Emma (Wenande) Steinfeld. On October 27, 1947 he married Anita Schoenfelder at Kennebec, SD. They lived in Kennebec where he was a mechanic, then moved to Mitchell where he was employed at Western Chevrolet for many years. They moved to Winner where he was employed at Frontier Motors and the Winner Public Schools. He retired and returned to Mitchell in 1998. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Moose Lodge where he served as Governor and the Elks Lodge. Jim’s great joys in his life were his family, playing cards and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Anita; three children: Thomas Steinfeld and wife, Dolores of Mitchell, SD, Mary Beth McLellan and husband, Doug of Rapid City, SD, Patsy Heisinger and husband, Jon of Rapid City, SD; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one brother, Raymond Steinfeld of Ventura, CA. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael, six brothers and three sisters.
