Evelyn Bernice Crockett was born February 1, 1924, at Plankinton, SD, to Louie and Vivian (Edinger) Hawkins. She attended country school, graduated from Plankinton High School and attended Dakota Wesleyan University.
On April 1, 1945, she married Francis Crockett in Plankinton at her parent’s home. They farmed near Mount Vernon where they lived until retiring and moving to Plankinton in 1977.
Evelyn was active in the Mount Vernon Methodist Church and Plankinton Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Sew-So Club serving in several offices. Evelyn received the Jefferson Award in Plankinton for community service. She was active in the VFW Auxiliary in Plankinton, was a 4-H Leader in Davison County for many years and received the Friend of 4-H Award in Aurora County. She tried to attend all activities her children and grandchildren participated in and her door was always open for everyone.
Evelyn had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in Corsica since November of 2005.
Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters: Norma Clark of Stickney, Vicky Gerlach and husband, Douglas, of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren: Todd Clark of Stickney, Travis Clark and wife, Kristie of Stickney, Scott Gerlach and wife, Nicole of Mitchell, Chipp Gerlach and wife, Natalie of Mount Vernon, Angie Boetel and husband, Scott of Huron; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Myron Hawkins of Sioux Falls, one sister-in-law, Elaine Rogers of Sioux Falls, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, July 28, 2009, one brother, John Hawkins, her son-in-law, Merle Clark, brother-in-law, Donald Rogers and sister-in-law, Joyce Hawkins.
