Obituary

 

     Glenn Irvin Odland was born on a farm near Colton, SD on March 28, 1925 to Gaute and Ingeborg (Hovdeness) Odland.  In 1942 he graduated from Colton High School.  He served his country during WWII in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946.  On March 21, 1948 he married Arlis Hermanson at Flandreau, SD.  In 1950 he graduated from Augustana College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration. He was recalled into active duty during the Korean War, serving from 1950 to 1952. He began his business career in 1952 as office manager at Goodyear Tire in Sioux Falls and then worked at Graham Tire and Warren Supply.  In 1960 they moved to Mitchell where Glenn was a partner at Norm’s TV and Appliance until 1966.  He owned and operated Ideal Appliance until retiring in 1986.  He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Mitchell Lions Club, Elks Lodge and the Mitchell Chamber of Commerce.

      He is survived by his wife, Arlis; one daughter, Vicki Schoenbeck of Farmington, MN; one son, Larry Odland and wife, Pam of Sioux Falls; two sisters: Donna Jean Nelson of Sioux Falls and Norma Iverson of Yankton; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, his son-in-law, two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

 

     Memorials may be directed to the South Dakota Lions Eye Bank.

I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you are never alone. Turn to the Holy Scriptures for guidance and to help soothe your heart. Psalms 34;18 assures us that God is near to those broken at heart and crushed in spirit. Please accept my deepest sympathies
