Mrs. Edythe V. Martin was born July 9, 1910, in Jackson, NE to Jesse and Lula (Terpening) Easterman. She moved with her family to Charles Mix County, SD and attended rural schools. She graduated from Wagner High School in 1930 and continued her education in Chicago, IL. Edythe also received her R.N. diploma from West Side Hospital in 1933 and Wrights Junior College. Also she was affiliated with the University of Illinois College of Medical Research Education Hospitals and continued an interest in medical research.
Edith was married to the late Dr. Charles Thomas and lived in Galesburg, IL and Fort Worth, TX. Later upon returning she was re-established at the University of Illinois; which included the Research and Education Hospital and serving in various departments.
Amongst things she had enjoyed doing was travel, music, flowers, sports and the antique business with her friends, Mary Wiles and Alice Scurry.
Most of her adult life after schooling she was as an active volunteer in numerous organizations, including the American Red Cross, Visiting Nursing Associations, American Cancer Society, and Little Learners, etc. Also she was a member of Peoria Women’s Club and Women of the Elks in Ruskin, FL.
In 1986 Edythe moved with her husband, Vernon C. Martin, a retired banker to Mitchell, SD.
Edythe is survived by her nieces and nephews: Floyd L. Easterman, Milwaukee, WI, Ernelle and George Rhinehart, Spooner, WI, Bonnie and John Orr, Mitchell, SD, Don and Lois Martin, Letcher, SD, Doug and Janet Martin, Mitchell, SD, Dale Martin, Mitchell, SD; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Alice Martin, Mitchell, SD, Darrell and Belva Bennett, Custer, SD and Larry and Annette Martin, Cody, WY.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, Vernon C. Martin, her brother, Floyd L. Easterman and his wife, Edna Mae Easterman, her brother-in-law, Leo B. Martin, her foster sister, Mrs Virgean H. Carpenter and her sister-in-law, Helen Dvorak.

Edie alway had open arms when I visited. When Wilma, my mother was ill and in the hospital at MItchell, we spent many afternoons and evenings together talking about the Terpening family and laughing together. She will alway be my favorite Aunt Edie.
