John Richard “Dick” Flowers was born September 22, 1935 in Dougherty, IA to John and Laura (Laposky) Flowers. In 1953 he graduated from Iroquois High School and then served in the US Navy until 1957.  On August 7, 1958 he married Marilyn Dossow at Cavour, SD.  They resided in Iroquois until moving to Brookings in 1969 and then to Mitchell in 1974.  He was employed with Northwestern Public Service for 26 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge, Mitchell Lions Club, VFW and the American Legion.  He was a former member of the Mitchell City Council and City Planning Committee.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn, three children: Tony (Mary) Flowers, Terri (Brian) Juhnke and Tom (Julie) Flowers all of Mitchell, five grandchildren: Jessie (TJ) Christensen, Nick Flowers and fiancé Nicole Loosbrock and her son Carter, Andrew Juhnke, Sara Juhnke and Riley Flowers, two step-grandchildren: Brandi and Kory Irwin, three great-grandchildren: Jovey, Jensen and Jaeley Christensen, his brother, Charles (Aleta) Flowers of Iroquois, his sister, Francis (Bill) Lingen of Cedar, MN and his mother-in-law, Geneva Dossow of Mitchell.  He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Werner Dossow.
