Irene Dora Torgerson was born September 16, 1915, to Louis and Mary (Schuldt) Hansen, at Hardwick, MN. She moved to Sanborn County, SD with her family at an early age. On December 25, 1933, she married John Torgerson at Woonsocket. They lived in Forestburg where she was a telephone operator. She was a teachers aid, worked on the hot lunch program and for thirty-five years she assisted her husband, John, as a bus driver and custodian at the Forestburg School. She had been a resident of Mitchell since 1993. She had been a member of the Forestburg Lutheran Church, James Valley Community Center and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell.
She is survived by two children: Arlene Baysinger and husband, Richard of Artesian, Lamoine Torgerson and wife, Barb of Mitchell; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1995, one son, Elmer Torgerson, three brothers: Albert, Walter and Julius Hansen, and one grandson, Tom Torgerson.
