Jerry O. Pederson was born May 27, 1945, at Huron, SD, to Oswald and Leona (Schnabel) Pederson. He grew up northeast of Wessington Springs. He graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1963, and received his business degree from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. On November 30, 1968, he married Sheila Beckman at Wessington Springs. For 30 years he was a seed corn district sales manager, retiring from Moews Seed Company. He had been a member of the South Dakota National Guard and for many years was an auctioneer, provided public speaking engagements and was a master of ceremonies. He was also a parking attendant at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, had served as president of the Exchange Club, and president of the Mitchell Quarterback Club. He was state director of the South Dakota Good Sam’s Camping Club, had served as president of the Corn Palace Sam’s Camping Club and was a member of the Palace Promenade Square Dancers Club.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila; two sons, Chad Pederson and wife, Heather of Spokane, WA, Ryan Pederson and wife, Tracy of Bay City MI; one sister, Sandy Grohs and husband, Wayne of Wessington Springs; his mother-in-law, LaVonne Beckman of Wessington Springs; two sisters-in-law, Julie Molumby and husband, Doug of Mitchell, Marilyn Etbauer and husband, Dennis of Kasson, MN and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father in law, Alfred Beckman.
