Melvin J. Turner was born July 29, 1923, at Artesian, SD to Edgar and Lydia (Carney) Turner. He grew up at Artesian and graduated from Artesian High School. He farmed and ranched in the Artesian area for many years until his retirement in 2002. He had been a member of the Artesian United Methodist Church.
He is survived by one brother, Leo Turner of Artesian, SD; three nieces: Judy Kuyper of Mitchell, SD, Connie Hjelm and husband, David of Woonsocket, SD, Lori Huff and husband, Steve of Mitchell, SD; one nephew, Dudley Montgomery and wife, Marlene of Rapid City; SD, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one step-brother, Ralph Pfister, two step-sisters, Pearl Killus and Ida Schultz, his sister-in-law, Joyce Turner, two nephews, Larry Turner and Curtis Turner, and two great nephews, Kyle Huff and Chris Huff.
