Doris Mae Lindsey was born December 12, 1916, at Mitchell, SD, to Wilbur and Bothilda (Petersen) Lindsey. She grew up in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1935. She received her teaching certificate in 1937 and her BA degree in 1971, from Dakota Wesleyan University. She married Marvin Hooker, June 4, 1955. She taught school for forty-one years from 1938 until 1979. She taught country schools in Wessington Springs, Orient, Rosedale and Spencer. She also taught at Plankinton, Letcher, Plano and the Mitchell School District. She was a member of the Congregational Church, the Mitchell Art Club and the Mitchell Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by one son, Steve Brown and wife, Pat of Ft. Pierre, SD; two daughters: Carol Berry and husband, Charles of Sioux Falls, SD, Coleen Peterson and husband, Kirk of Larimore, ND; seven grandchildren: Kelly Brown, Lindsey Osterkamp, Jennifer, Tom and Gina Timmerman, Angie and Amy Berry and two great-grandchildren, Jasper Brown and Olivia Timmerman. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Howard and Harold Lindsey and one sister, Iona Lindsey.
