Francis Wesley Crockett was born July 8, 1915 on the family farm southwest of Mount Vernon, SD to Edward and Bertha (Zeal) Crockett. He completed the eighth grade attending country school and then began farming with his father. On April 1, 1945 he married Evelyn Hawkins. They continued to farm until he retired in 1977 and moved to Plankinton. He was also a Golden Harvest Seed Dealer for many years. In 2003 he moved to the Stickney Manor in Stickney and then to the Crystal Manor in Mitchell in 2004. He was a 4-H leader for many years and at the age of sixteen was awarded 4-H Health Champion. He was awarded the Friend of 4-H and the Jefferson Award for community service. He enjoyed fishing, camping, sight-seeing and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, Norma Clark of Stickney and Vicky Gerlach and husband, Douglas of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, Todd Clark of Stickney, Travis Clark and wife, Kristie of Stickney, Scott Gerlach and wife, Nicole of Mitchell, Chipp Gerlach and wife, Natalie of Mount Vernon, Angie Boetel and husband, Scott of Huron; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Elaine Rogers of Sioux Falls; one brother-in-law, Myron Hawkins of Sioux Falls and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son-in-law, Merle Clark, one brother-in-law, Donald Rogers and one sister-in-law, Joyce Hawkins.

We are sorry to hear of our loss. Dave has such great memories of your dad/grandpa during his 4-H years in White Lake. He was such a happy go lucky man. May he rest in peace.

Francis and Evelyn was the most greatest neighbors that any one could ever had. I remember Francis always happy, kind, and there if you needed help. Evelyn, Vicky, and Norma I know you will miss Francis very deeply but he is in the arms of his Lord. God Bless and Keep you in this time of need.

Uncle Francis was one of the kindest, most humorous people I have ever known. Everyone should have an uncle like that. He will be missed by all
