Tony Antonie was born October 22, 1947, in Cleveland, OH, to George S. and Jeanette M. (Ulrich) Antonie. After graduating from Euclid High School in Euclid, OH in 1965, he owned and operated a painting business and Tony’s Dreamland Café.
On January 4, 1974, he married Marianne McCreight in Wickliffe, OH. The couple then owned and operated Anton’s Arco Towing Service, Pinball Wizard, Willoughby Hills Market and S.O.M. Center Beverage. In 1981, they moved to Hilton Head Island, SC where he was employed by Better Beer and Wine, while also working as a realtor/broker. In 1985, they returned to Cleveland and opened Euclid Beach Food and Spirits and co-owned Mike’s Flowers.
While on a family vacation, they bought the Chief Motel and moved to Mitchell in 1987. While in Mitchell they also owned the Stardust and Corn Palace Motels and several other properties until 2000. He recently returned to Mitchell after living in Nevada, MO, to be close to his family.
He is survived by Marianne McCreight Antonie, Mitchell; four children: Connie (Rich) Minder, Mitchell, SD, Tim (Torie) Antonie, Beckley, WV, Nick (Crystal Lane) Antonie, Sioux Falls. SD, Mimi (Kurt) Fleury, Mitchell, SD; eight grandchildren; his parents, Adolf and Jeanette Stiftar, Sioux Falls, SD and one brother, Adolph Stiftar, Rochester, MN.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Antonie and his mother-in-law, Dorothy (Vance) McCreight.
